Phonics game "I Love My Family"
After reading Anthony Brown's (2005) book My Mom and My Dad, students will have an opportunity to notice and differentiate multi-syllabic words through this game. Below is the instruction for the game:
1. Pick a family board and put it in from of yourself.
2. Shuffle the heart cards and put the cards on the heart space.
3. Everyone shall roll the dice once. The person who rolls the highest number will go first.
4. The first player shall pick up one card from the heart pile. You will say the word on the card out loud to the other players.
5. If other players need that card, they will repeat the word. The player who says the word first will get the card and place it on the matching
space on the family board.
6. If both players day the word at the same time, roll the dice and the higher number will take the card.
7. If nobody needs the card, place it on the house space.
8. Take turns and repeat the steps 4 though 7.
9. When a player has all the cards on the family board, raise hand and call "family!" The player who calls "family" first wins the game.
